The coverups have never stopped; the Coast Guard only got better at sweeping things under the rug...

I request to be anonymous as some of the FNs from back then may still be in. I'm now at 21 years in and still feeling helpless for our members. Here's one for you. When I tried to do the right thing, and was let down. Shocker right?!

I show up to my second unit as a brand new MK3 and proceeded with my check-ins. Everything was going smoothly, until I did my check-in with the HS2. She insisted it was the end of the day, I was the last appointment for a check-in with her, and she wanted to get out of the office. I agreed as it seemed like a normal procedure at this unit. We headed to the on-base bar, which was an open atmosphere bar, with sand volleyball and such. We started the check-in process while she ordered a drink. She asked me how old I was, only 19 at the time, and said it didn't matter, and ordered me a drink as well. I refused it and was assured that no one would know I was underage as the bartender was her close friend. She would continue trying to get me to drink with her for another hour when I finally said I had another appointment with the command chief in 20 minutes. I made sure to never go into medical unless it was for my annual check-up and requested anyone but her. I let my JO know, which they just laughed it off and said they'd take care of it. She ended up leaving 2 months later, so I naively thought it was taken care of and never thought about it again, as it was over, or so I thought.

I transferred to a new unit, while trying to make 2nd, for sea time. Low and behold, she's the HS1 on board. I made it clear in the check-in process there was nothing with us and I was not going to meet with her without a chaperone. Things seemed fine and we went about our business. We make a port call and I go out with my guys to the only bar/restaurant in the city to play pool and get a beer to drown the thoughts of being away from my wife and newborn son. A few beers in and she walks through the door. I immediately was on high alert. I noticed she would go towards the bathrooms quite often, and when I saw one of my FNs looking off, I asked how he was doing. He proceeded to let me know that HS1 was following him and another FN into the bathroom trying to see and or touch their penis and grope their butts.

Immediately I looked around for her, couldn't find her anywhere in the place, and asked them to go back to the ship with me. The next morning I took what I knew to my chief and was told they would take care of it and not to worry. She transferred the following year and nothing happened to her as far as I knew. She went on to make chief and that's when I figured out that is how the Coast Guard works.

I vowed to never let that shit go if I ever made chief as that was how a shitty person works. I am now a chief, it took me forever to make it, as my marks were not stellar due to being a squeaky wheel and voicing how messed up things are. Reading all the posts show that it's never stopped, but the CG got better at sweeping things under the rug....

Signed,

A Disappointed Chief!
